My Practice

My experience enables me to offer effective individualized counseling. I treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a safe and compassionate environment for individuals, families, and couples.

My Background

I am a graduate of The University of Maryland School of Psychology.  I subsequently earned a Master's degree in Social Work with specialization in clinical studies from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.  I have been a licensed social worker in the State of Maryland since 1997 and established a private psychotherapy practice in 2000.  I also provide Parenting Coordination and EMDR.

I have also worked for the Department of Social Services in Frederick serving adults and children, and then with the Mental Health Management Agency as overseer of the Public Mental Health System for youth; followed by eleven years with the Circuit Court managing services for families.

My Treatment Focus

My focus is to help you heal, energize, and become aware of your inner strengths. I achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.

My Patient Promise

I promise to be there for you through your journey. My goal is to help you grow and heal from your pain and move forward to the life you want.

Therapy

Depression & Anxiety

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience in our lives. Through counseling , I can help you gain perspective, motivation, and joy.

Trauma & PTSD

Many individuals experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic events. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that may linger following surprising or traumatic events. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

Relationships

Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both parties, in a neutral environment where you may share issues and create solutions to strengthen your relationship.

FAQs

How long and how many times a week is therapy?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. Most clients are seen once a week in the beginning, then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions depends upon your current needs.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of time a client is in counseling depends on the nature of the problem and the goals of the counseling. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of counseling. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to receive counseling for a longer period.

What if I want couples counseling, but my partner won't come?

Unfortunately, sometimes one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for counseling. However, I often find that it is possible to improve the relationship with just one person involved in counseling.

How much are your fees and do you take insurance?

My fees are comparable to other professionals.  I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross, CareFirst, Humana (formerly Tricare), and Medicare policies and I also accept most out-of-network insurance coverage.  Contact your insurance company to understand your benefits.

Do I need to take medications?

As a therapist, I am not trained to prescribe medications. However, it may be advisable to consult with a psychiatrist to determine whether medication is warranted. I can refer you to a prescriber.
